Update: The City of Dallas, Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Training Dates and Additional Info.

The City of Dallas, Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training program is an all-hazard grassroots initiative that trains local community members the bare basics of emergency response. This valuable course is designed to protect yourself, your family, your neighbors, and your neighborhood in an emergency situation. In a post-disaster situation, citizens may be on their own for 24, 48 or even 72 hours. While people will generally respond to others in need, having CERT training assists people in responding effectively, without placing themselves in unnecessary danger. The dates, times, and locations have been established for the next training and they are as follows:

Tuesday, April 24, 2007- 6p-9p- 4800 Harry Hines Blvd, Dallas, TX 75235 (American Red Cross Building, Dallas Chapter)

Community Emergency Response Team Training

The Office of Emergency Management, with the assistance of the Dallas Fire-Rescue and Dallas Police Departments, recently began sponsoring Community Emergency Response Team Training (CERT) to the citizens of the City of Dallas. CERT is a very popular program sponsored nationally by FEMA and the Department of Homeland Security. It teaches citizens how to do basic first aid, fire safety and fire extinguisher use, simple rescue techniques, and other safety skills so that a group of citizens can help themselves until the City’s First Responders arrive following a tornado, explosion, or other disaster in their neighborhood, workplace, church, or other area.

CERT is a positive and realistic approach to emergency and disaster situations where citizens may initially be on their own and their actions can make a difference. While people will respond to others in need without the training, one goal of the CERT program is to help them do so effectively and efficiently without placing themselves in unnecessary danger.

CERT training promotes a partnering effort between emergency services and the Citizens of Dallas. Community Emergency Response Team Training Sessions Cover:

-Disaster Preparedness
-Fire Safety
-Disaster Medical Operations-Triage and Treating Life Threatening Injuries
-Light Search and Rescue
-Team Organization
-Disaster Psychology
-Terrorism and CERT
-Final CERT Exercise

CERT training is free of charge and requires completion of 24 interactive and hands on training sessions which are offered mornings, afternoons, evenings, and Saturdays. We are flexible in scheduling training for your organization or will be able to accommodate you by placing you in an ongoing training class. We are available to come to meetings and social gatherings to discuss our program and its benefits more in depth. I have attached the brochure for your perusal and please do not hesitate to contact me if you should have any questions. Thank you and have a great day!
