The old Whataburger/Church on Shoreview
The Lakewood Arts Academy is moving into the old Whataburger Building. The new name will be Studio Arts Dallas. This is a fine art studio that provides a variety of art classes for ages 2 to adults since 1992. The studio chose Lake Highlands because of its convenient location. This site is also larger and will enable the studio to provide more classes and include features such as a new sculpture garden and out door studio space. Emergency Volunteer Responders Needed
The Dallas Police Department is forming a citizen volunteer organization that will respond to natural disasters and other emergencies. These volunteers will assist the Police in manning traffic barricades and other non-enforcement tasks so that uniformed officers can be assigned to other duties. These groups will be formed through each patrol division. Senior Corporal Ron Carpenter will be the coordinator.
There will be a planning meeting on Thursday, July 14, 2005 at 7pm at the Northeast Patrol Divison, 9915 E. Northwest Highway. If you have questions, call Ron at 214.670.4415.

VIP (Volunteers in Patrol) training dates: The next training dates will be July 18, 19, and 21 at NE Division. To receive an application, call Crime Watch Voice Mail (214-967-5092) or e-mail crimecrusher@hotmail.com. You pick the times and dates to drive around the neighborhood and it's just a couple of hours a month.
I will need completed Applications by the First week in July. Statistics show that patrol groups in neighborhoods have a definite impact on crime reduction and we've actually seen it happen in our neighborhood thanks to our VIP team's efforts every day. Thank you, VIP Team!!!!
