Council will finally vote on creating a Tax Increment Financing District (TIF) for Lake Highlands. If Council approves the creation of a TIF, the City would be required to use any taxes resulting from our increased property values to make specific improvements in our community for the life of the TIF. We will have the opportunity to begin to deal with rehabilitation and redevelopment of properties, updating infrastructure, and parkland acquisition and improvements in our neighborhood.
You can show your support by attending the public hearing on October 26. Let’s pack the Chambers to show Council that District 10 residents vehemently support a TIF in Lake Highlands. The public hearing is scheduled Wednesday, October 26, 2005, at 1:00 pm in the Council Chambers (6th floor).
Please pass the word to your neighbors and friends. I look forward to seeing each of you on October 26.

Wal-Mart Comments
This case was initially scheduled to come before Council on Wednesday, October 26, 2005; however, I have just learned that someone legally filed opposition to delay and the hearing has been postponed to November 9, 2005. The Zoning rules allow the “opposition” to come in and pay a fee to have the case delayed to give them more time to prepare. Those who signed up with the City Secretary’s office to speak on October 26 agenda will now need to sign up to speak on the new agenda date of November 9, 2005. The City’s Secretary’s Office number is (214) 670-3738.
