Dallas Sanitation Services encourages residents to recycle Christmas trees into free mulch
Dallas - Sanitation Services to recycle live, green or flocked Christmas trees into free mulch for Dallas residents.
Residents are encouraged to bring Christmas trees to any of five locations, from December 26 through January 11, to recycle the trees into mulch. Trees will be accepted from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Residents should remove all ornaments, tinsel, lights, nails, and the stand from their trees.
Locations for tree disposal Monday through Sunday are Flagpole Hill at Buckner Boulevard and Northwest Highway, Northwest (Bachman) Transfer Station at 9500 Harry Hines Blvd., Southwest (Oak Cliff) Transfer Station at 4610 S. Westmoreland Road, and the Fair Oaks Transfer Station at 7677 Fair Oaks Ave.
Trees can also be dropped off for recycling Monday through Saturday at the McCommas Bluff Landfill at 5100 Youngblood Road.
Free mulch is available to Dallas residents at the Bachman Transfer Station and McCommas Bluff Landfill after January 1, 2006. A driver’s license or recent water bill must be presented to prove residency. Residents should bring their own shovels and containers as they will be required to package and load mulch themselves.
Mulch is not only a valuable nutrient for landscaping, but a thick layer in flowerbeds and around trees provides an excellent insulation for plant roots during cold weather.
