December 6, 2012 LHAIA email:

The Lake Highlands Area Improvement Association is sharing this information provided by the City of Dallas as part of the LBJ/Skillman Urban Planning Initiative.   Please take a few minutes to look at the information available in the links and provide feedback on the survey.

The North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) and the City of Dallas are working jointly on the LBJ/Skillman Urban Planning Initiative, a current community effort to plan for the future of the area near Interstate Highway (IH) 635, LBJ Freeway and Skillman Street in Dallas.  As part of the initiative, these two governmental agencies are asking local residents, business owners and others to provide feedback about current conditions in the area, and about the future.

The survey may be found at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/LBJ_Skillman_Future.

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is planning to reconstruct the intersection of Skillman Street and LBJ Freeway/IH 635.  This reconstruction is expected to help the flow of vehicular traffic through the area, while offering the potential for changing land uses in the area.  The LBJ/Skillman Urban Planning Initiative will help the City of Dallas prepare for the future, including the impact of the TxDOT project, and help identify community-based activities to move forward as area development and redevelopment occur.  More information about the initiative is available at http://www.nctcog.org/LBJSkillman.

Additional information will be provided at a workshop scheduled for 6:30PM to 8:00PM on Thursday, January 17, 2013 at Forest Lane Academy, 9663 Forest Lane, Dallas, TX 75243.

Lake Highlands Elementary Wee Wildcat Program

ATTENTION FAMILIES WITH PRESCHOOLERS

If you're wondering what it's like to be a real Lake Highlands Elementary Wildcat here's your opportunity. The Wee Wildcat program is designed for pre-school age neighborhood children and their parents to come and experience the "Wildcat Way" while actually learning in the classrooms.
There will be three sessions (Jan 25th at 9:15, Feb 15th at 9:30, and April 12th at 9:30). These sessions introduce future students to Lake Highlands Elementary and get them acquainted with the "big school." These sessions will include activities in Art, Math, Music, PE, Reading and Science. In addition, there is a graduation session held on May 31st at 9:30 for all students who will enter Kindergarten in 2013.

Please encourage your friends and neighbors to be a Wee Wildcat!  Program is designed for children starting kindergarten at LHE this fall, August 2013 and next fall, August 2014.

For more info contact the school office at 469-593-2100 or April Gorman at 214-349-9563.
Also, Kinder Round Up is set for March 6th at 6:30 pm. We will be learning about our new online enrollment procedures this year.
