December 7, 2005
Attention Lake Highlands Residents,
An application has been filed for a specific use permit for a Club/Bar at a shopping center on Skillman/Audelia/Adleta.
This case is set to be heard at the City Planning and Zoning Commission on Thursday, December 15, 2005. (But that date can change).
The case was originally scheduled to be heard on December 1, 2005.
The following information is from the City of Dallas Planning and Zoning Commission agenda on December 1, 2005.
“ 5. Z056-109 (JH)
Jennifer Hiromoto
(CC District 10) Avery
An application for a Specific Use Permit for an Alcoholic Beverage Establishment use to be used as a private club on the property zoned an MU-2 Mixed Use District on the southeast side of Skillman Street, south of Adleta Boulevard.
Staff Recommendation: Approval, for a two-year period with eligibility for automatic renewals for additional three-year periods, subject to a site plan and conditions.
Applicant: Frank Vu
Representative: Dereck Coker, Real Estate Solutions”
The City of Dallas Staff recommends approval of this establishment, but there was a club at this location previously and someone was murdered in the parking lot. It closed shortly thereafter.
We disagree with City Staff. At this present point in time, a club that stays open most of the night and serves alcohol until two in the morning is not in the best interest of our community nor the type of business we envision good for our community. This establishment will not provide anything beneficial to our community, but rather could lead to increased crime and drunk drivers on our streets. We want to send a message to the applicant that they can expect strong opposition to further deterioration of our neighborhood.
We need to have as much information as we can provided to Bill Avery of the Planning and Zoning Commission before this date. Please feel free to convey your concerns and wishes in writing to Mr. Avery at the following address prior to December 15th.
Mr. William H. Avery Dallas Zoning Commission P. O. Box 822808 Dallas, Texas 75382
This case is scheduled to be heard at Dallas City Hall Council Chamber on the 6th floor at 1:30PM on Thursday, December 15th in front of the Planning and Zoning Commission. Please make plans to attend if you would like to voice your concern to the Planning and Zoning Commission.
Also, please keep in mind that this date of December 15th is always subject to change again -- nevertheless if you want Mr. Avery to know where you stand, state it in a letter to him.
Thank you for helping to improve and protect the quality of life that we all value in Lake Highlands.
